Champagne Salon is een luxe vintage champagne die alleen gemaakt wordt in uitzonderlijk goede oogstjaren. In de hele twintigste eeuw werden slechts zevenendertig oogsten goed genoeg bevonden! Het is dan ook een welhaast mythische naam onder de liefhebbers van topchampagne. De druiven – uitsluitend chardonnay – zijn afkomstig uit de Côte des Blancs, om precies te zijn uit Le Mesnil-Sur-Oger.
Vorig jaar is voor het eerst een limited release uitgekomen van de vintage 1997, welke in februari 2017 gedégorgeerd is. Dit jaar brent Salon wederom de vintage 1997 in zeer beperkte oplage op de markt, maar dan gedégorgeerd in februari 2018. Dit betreft de Editie 2018, en is een unieke kans om deze schaarse en zeer gewilde champagne te bemachtigen. Wereldwijd zijn er namelijk nog slechts 800 flessen beschikbaar! Zelf noemen de wijnmakers van Salon de vintage 1997 “a sensuality of silk”.

Antonio Galloni in Vinous: “… 1997 Salon is super-polished, delicate and refined. The 1997 offers lovely detail and nuance throughout. Hints of candied lemon peel, white flowers and white pepper add an element of brightness that complement the wine’s natural richness. Although 1997 doesn’t belong to the group of elite vintages at Salon, it does come close to that level. Perhaps even more importantly, the 1997 is ageing gracefully and should continue to drink nicely for a number of years.”
La Revue du Vin de France: “… toute la distiction que l’on attend d’un grand vin. A parfaite maturité, il s’exprime dans un registre profond, evec des saveurs d’épices, de fruits secs, d’agrumes confits, de feuillus. Assagie par le temps, la bouche est d’une purité exemplaire.”
